HOUSE HEALTH, EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SERVICES STANDING COMMITTEE May 4, 1999 3:00 p.m. COMMITTEE CALENDAR ALASKA STATE HOSPITAL AND NURSING HOME REPORT ON THE "ALASKA HEALTHCARE WORK FORCE DEVELOPMENT SUMMIT" TAPES 99-49, SIDE A CALL TO ORDER CO-CHAIRMAN DYSON called the House Health, Education and Social Services Standing Committee meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. PRESENT Committee members present were Representatives Dyson, Coghill, Whitaker, Morgan, Brice and Kemplen. SUMMARY OF INFORMATION LARAINE DERR, Director, Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association, explained the background to the Alaska Healthcare Work Force Development Summit and talked about their action steps. DENNIS MURRAY, Administrator, Heritage Place, Soldotna, testified via teleconference from the Kenai Legislative Information Office and explained where they go from the Summit. They are working with the University of Alaska to train nurses since there is a shortage of nurses. CAROLYN KEIL, Project Director, Alaska Colleagues in Caring, testified via teleconference from Anchorage and explained strategies for dealing with the shortage of nurses.
