CHAIR BJORKMAN called the Senate Transportation Standing
Committee meeting to order at 1:38 p.m. Present at the call to
order were Senators Tobin, Kiehl, Shower (via teleconference)
and Chair Bjorkman.
SJR 12-NOAA BUOY OUTAGES

CHAIR BJORKMAN announced the consideration of SJR 12-NOAA BUOY
OUTAGES

HAHLEN BEHNKEN, Staff, Senator Forrest Dunbar, Alaska State
Legislature, Juneau, Alaska, gave a brief overview of SJR 12 on
behalf of the sponsor. He said SJR 12 addressed the outages that
have been increasingly occurring over the last five years to
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) buoys
around the state and taking particular note of the Seal Rock
buoy in Prince William Sound. This buoy is essential for the
safe navigation of oil tankers from Valdez. This is an important
issue, especially for Prince Willliam Sound and for all coastal
communities in Alaska.
