ACTION NARRATIVE
TAPE 00-4, SIDE A
CHAIRMAN KELLY called the Senate Rules Committee meeting to order
at 11:42 a.m. All members were present.
SENATOR LEMAN moved to calendar, at the Chairman's discretion, all
versions of SB 204-EXTEND ALASKA COMMISSION ON AGING with
individual recommendations and accompanying fiscal notes. There
being no objection, the motion carried.
SENATOR LEMAN moved to calendar, at the Chairman's discretion, all
versions of SB 266-MARINE ANTI-FOULING PAINTS with individual
recommendations and accompanying fiscal notes.
SENATOR ELLIS objected and asked for an explanation of the bill.
SENATOR LEMAN explained a ban on the use of TBT paint was placed in
statute in 1987 with certain exceptions: U.S. government vessels,
vessels over 4,000 gross tons, and foreign vessels in the state
less than 90 days. SB 266 removes the exemption in that after
January 1, 2001, TBT-based paint can no longer be applied to those
vessels.
SENATOR ELLIS removed his objection therefore the motion carried.
There being no further business to come before the committee,
CHAIRMAN KELLY adjourned the meeting at 11:44 a.m.
