CHAIRMAN HALFORD called the Joint Special Committee on Mergers
meeting to order at 9:15 a.m.
MR. JERRY BROOKMAN, Kenai, encouraged the Committee to thoroughly
review the merger and to have a special session.
MR. RANDY DALY, Kenai, said he thought it was in the State's best
interest to allow the merger to go forward. He understands what it
takes to be in business and he understands the need to streamline
production and decrease costs. It's time for Alaska to get back
into the business of being a productive economy. The Governor has
done a good job in protecting Alaskan interests and thought if the
merger does not move forward, it will start to affect the Permanent
Fund. We need to get Alaskans back to work.
MR. DAN UNGRUE, Kenai, said we should let BP run the business and
the State would be much better off for it. We would get a lot more
revenues and get the gas pipeline going.
CHAIRMAN HALFORD asked for further testimony, but there was none.
He announced the Committee would confer with the legal
representatives and make a report.
CHAIRMAN HALFORD adjourned the meeting at 9:30 A.M.
