CALL TO ORDER
REPRESENTATIVE BEVERLY MASEK, Chair, convened the House
Transportation Standing Committee meeting at 2:05 p.m.
PRESENT
Committee members present were Representatives Masek, Cowdery,
Sanders and Kemplen. Representative Hudson arrived at 2:12 p.m.
Members present from Prince Rupert were: Herb Pond, Councilor,
Prince Rupert City Council; Shaun Stevenson, Marketing
Communications Officer, Port of Prince Rupert; Gloria Rendell
(ph), Chairperson, Prince Rupert Economic Development Commission;
and Julia Ferguson, Tourism Activities Coordinator.
SUMMARY OF INFORMATION
JACK MUSSALLEM, Mayor, Prince Rupert, gave a brief statement
indicating the point of the presentation was to discuss mutual
concerns and interests between Alaska and Prince Rupert.
SHAUN STEVENSON, Marketing Communications Officer, Port of Prince
Rupert, gave an overview of the Port of Prince Rupert. He
classified Prince Rupert as a gateway to Alaska and emphasized
the importance of the connections between the ferry systems of
British Columbia and Alaska. He expressed that we share similar
concerns and challenges, particularly those dealing with modes of
transportation. He also responded to questions asked by
committee members.
COMMITTEE ACTION
The committee took no action.
CHAIR MASEK called for an at-ease at 2:16 p.m. in order to hear
