01/23/26 (H) MINUTE(L&C) WITNESS REGISTER REPRESENTATIVE DAVID NELSON Alaska State Legislature Juneau, Alaska POSITION STATEMENT: As prime sponsor, reintroduced HJR 20. ACTION NARRATIVE 4:25:19 PM CO-CHAIR HALL called the House Labor and Commerce Standing Committee meeting to order at 4:25 p.m. Representatives Fields, Hall, Carrick, Saddler, Coulombe, and Nelson were present at the call to order. HJR 20-HIRING OF APPRENTICES/VETERANS 4:26:04 PM CO-CHAIR HALL announced that the only order of business would be HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 20, encouraging the United States Congress to establish hiring goals for apprentices and veteran apprentices. 4:26:35 PM REPRESENTATIVE DAVID NELSON, Alaska State Legislature, as prime sponsor, reintroduced HJR 20. He said that the proposed resolution would encourage the United States (U.S.) Congress to establish hiring goals for apprentices and veteran apprentices. The resolution aims to assist veterans transitioning from armed services to civilian life. It would encourage the establishment of hiring goals for Department of Defense (DoD) construction projects, namely those in apprenticeships or post-secondary programs. He said it would support Americans who "wore the uniform." 4:27:37 PM CO-CHAIR HALL opened public testimony on HJR 20. After ascertaining that nobody wished to testify, she closed public testimony. 4:28:20 PM The committee took a brief at-ease. 4:28:32 PM CO-CHAIR FIELDS moved to report HJR 20 out of committee with individual recommendations and the accompanying fiscal notes. 4:29:15 PM ADJOURNMENT There being no further business before the committee, the House Labor and Commerce Standing Committee meeting was adjourned at 4:29 p.m.
