appointees for confirmation hearing on behalf of the House Labor
and Commerce Standing Committee, Representative Kurt Olson,
Chair.

CHAIR KURT OLSON called the House Labor and Commerce Standing
Committee meeting to order at 3:20 p.m. Representatives Olson,
Holmes, Miller, Saddler and Thompson were present at the call to
order.

CHAIR OLSON announced that the only order of business would be
to hold confirmation hearings on the Governor's appointees to
various state boards and commissions.

KONRAD JACKSON, Staff, Representative Kurt Olson, Alaska State
Legislature, referred to a memorandum in members' packets dated
March 30, 2011 to Suzi Lowell, Chief Clerk. He stated that the
committee members have had ample time to review the resumes of
the Governor's appointees to various state boards and
commissions. He read a list of the appointees, as follows:

MR. JACKSON reminded members that the member's signature on the
referral memo does not reflect the intent by any of the members
to vote for or against individuals during any further session
for the purposes of confirmation.

CHAIR OLSON, after first determining no one else wished to
testify, closed public testimony on the confirmation hearings.

REPRESENTATIVE SADDLER stated that he previously served as the
Deputy Director of the Boards and Commissions. He stated that
he is pleased the Governor's office has been able to facilitate
a slate of candidates to appoint to the boards and commissions.
He mentioned that the service is unpaid but is vital to the
operation of government. He offered his appreciation for
everyone who put his/her name forward for consideration.
CHAIR OLSON agreed.
REPRESENTATIVE HOLMES also agreed. She related she has
previously been on the list for a confirmation hearing and
stated that it is an interesting process.
REPRESENTATIVE HOLMES made a motion to advance the confirmations
for appointees referred to the House Labor and Commerce Standing
Committee for consideration to the joint session of the House
and Senate for consideration. She also reminded members that a
signature on the committee's report in no way reflects the
member's vote during the joint floor session. There being no
objection, the confirmations were advanced.

There being no further business before the committee, the House
Labor and Commerce Standing Committee meeting was adjourned at
3:26 p.m.
