ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE JOINT MEETING HOUSE HEALTH, EDUCATION AND SOCIAL SERVICES STANDING COMMITTEE HOUSE JUDICIARY STANDING COMMITTEES February 2, 2001 1:05 p.m. COMMITTEE CALENDAR OVERVIEW: WELLNESS COURTS TAPES 01-09, SIDES A & B01-10, SIDE A [HOUSE HES TAPES] CALL TO ORDER REPRESENTATIVE ROKEBERG, Chair, convened the Joint House Health, Education and Social Services and Judiciary Standing Committees meeting at 1:05 p.m. PRESENT Committee members present were Representatives Rokeberg, Dyson, James, Coghill, Cissna, Joule, Myers, Stevens, and Berkowski. SUMMARY OF INFORMATION ELAINE ANDREWS, Presiding Judge, Third Judicial District Anchorage, Superior Court, Alaska Court System, gave opening remarks and an overview of wellness courts. JAMES N. WANAMAKER, Judge, Third Judicial District Anchorage, District Court, Alaska Court System, presented an overview of wellness courts. DEAN GUANELI, Chief Assistant Attorney General, Legal Services Section-Juneau, Criminal Division, Department of Law, presented an overview of wellness courts from the perspective of the Department of Law. BARBARA BRINK, Director, Public Defender Agency, Department of Administration, presented an overview of wellness courts from the department's perspective. JANET MCCABE, President, Partners for Downtown Progress, presented an overview on wellness courts from their perspective. ANNOUNCEMENTS No announcements were made. COMMITTEE ACTION The committee took no action.
