CHAIR TOOHEY called the meeting to order at 3:08 p.m., noted
members present and announced the calendar. She brought SB
160 to the table.
SB 160 - MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP LOANS
CHAIR TOOHEY stated that SB 160 had been discussed in
subcommittee. She then asked the pleasure of the committee.
REP. VEZEY indicated that there was a subcommittee report.
CHAIR TOOHEY asked Rep. Vezey to inform the committee of the
subcommittee recommendations.
Number 047
REP. VEZEY said he still has concerns regarding how the
Department of Administration (DOA) is handling the funds
involved. He indicated that although his concerns are not
related to the substance of the legislation, he would pursue
further investigation of the matter with the DOA because he
felt that perhaps the state is participating in tax fraud.
He reiterated that his concerns are unrelated to the intent
of the bill.
Number 076
CHAIR TOOHEY asked if the committee would like to accept the
recommendations of the subcommittee.
REP. BUNDE made a motion to accept the recommendation of the
subcommittee report and to pass SB 160 out committee.
CHAIR TOOHEY asked the pleasure of the committee.
REP. KOTT asked for a written subcommittee report. He then
withdrew the request.
CHAIR TOOHEY announced that SB 160 passed out of committee
with attached fiscal note.
CONFIRMATION HEARINGS
CHAIR TOOHEY then brought the Confirmation Hearings to the
table.
Number 147
REP. KOTT asked if there would be teleconference testimony.
CHAIR TOOHEY said no. She then asked LYNNE SMITH if there
was any correspondence regarding the confirmations.
Number 150
LYNNE SMITH, Committee Aide for the House HESS Committee,
stated that no correspondence was received.
REP. KOTT suggested that if there was no testimony to be
heard, the committee should pass the slate of nominees,
unless there were any noted exceptions.
(Chair Toohey took a brief at-ease from 3:12 p.m. to 3:13
p.m.)
Number 182
CHAIR TOOHEY said she would read the list of nominees and
then ask the pleasure of the committee.
