CALL TO ORDER
REPRESENTATIVE CON BUNDE, Chair, convened the House Special
Committee on Education at 8:11 a.m.
PRESENT
Committee members present were Representatives Bunde, Green,
Stevens, Joule, and Guess. Representative Chenault was also in
attendance.
SUMMARY OF INFORMATION
ED McLAIN, Ph.D., Deputy Commissioner, Office of the
Commissioner, Department of Education and Early Development,
summarized the department's reports to the legislature and
responded to questions from committee members.
MARK LEAL, Director of Assessment, Teaching and Learning
Support, Department of Education and Early Development (EED),
reported on test-result turnaround times and answered members'
questions.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Committee will meet on April 3 to consider HB 479; other bills
heard might include HB 449 and HB 464. The committee will also
provide the department with the committee's position on the EED
report, "Waivers and Appeals - SB 133: A Report to the Alaska
State Legislature" and let EED know if the committee will sponsor
legislation to create an appeals board.
COMMITTEE ACTION
The committee took no action.
ADJOURNMENT
CHAIR BUNDE adjourned the House Special Committee on Education
at 9:40 a.m.
