CHAIR CHERYLL HEINZE convened the meeting of the House Special
Committee on Economic Development, International Trade and
Tourism at 10:06 a.m. Representatives Heinze, McGuire, Kott,
Kohring, Dahlstrom, and Cissna were present at the call to
order. Representative Crawford arrived as the meeting was in
progress.
SUMMARY OF INFORMATION
MIKE BARRY, Chair, Joint Energy Policy Task Force, presented the
task force's report on the Railbelt, emphasizing the findings
and recommendations therein.
H.A. "RED" BOUCHER, Chairman, Board of Directors, Chugach
Electric Association; Vice Chairman, Joint Energy Policy Task
Force, spoke on the need for strong cyber security, especially
when dealing with utilities, which could be a choice target for
cyber terrorists and hackers. Mr. Boucher recommended several
methods to reduce or eliminate the risk of attack.
BECKY GAY, Project Manager, Alaska Industrial Development and
Export Authority (AIDEA) and Alaska Energy Authority (AEA);
Staff, Joint Energy Policy Task Force, spoke on the task force's
report and answered questions relating to her interpretation of
the report's findings and possible future expansions to the
report.
BERNIE SMITH, Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority
and Alaska Energy Authority, supplied supporting commentary and
offered to answer questions.
