CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Phillips convened the meeting of the Legislative Budget
and Audit Committee on May 11, 1998, at approximately 8:10 a.m.
in the Senate Finance Committee Room of the State Capitol,
Juneau, Alaska.
PRESENT
The following members were present:

ALSO PRESENT
Pat Davidson, Chief Legislative Auditor; Mike Greany, Legislative
Fiscal Analyst.
CONSIDERATION OF AUDIT REQUESTS
Pat Davidson - Senator Adams submitted an audit request to review
the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs' compliance with
the Alaska National Guard Board of Inquiry recommendations.
Senator Adams MOVED to approve the audit request to review the
Department of Military and Veterans Affairs - Compliance with the
Recommendations of the Alaska National Guard Board of Inquiry.
Chairman Phillips - Hearing no objection, the motion was
APPROVED.
(Representative Croft was not present for the vote)
Pat Davidson advised the Committee that a status report on the
prior recommendations of the Department of Health and Social
Services audit of the Division of Family and Youth Services,
Selected Child Protection issues, should be available to the
Committee and Legislature the first week of the next Legislative
Session.
OTHER BUSINESS
Pat Davidson provided the Committee with a status of the Division
of Legislative Audit's workload identifying the audit reports
released in 1998; audit reports in preliminary report status; on-
going audits; and pending audits.
The Division anticipates contracting out 3-4 of the smaller
audits.
Chairman Phillips appointed a subcommittee comprised of himself,
Senator Pearce, Representative Bunde, Senator Adams and
Representative Hanley to interview and select the applicants for
the position of Legislative Fiscal Analyst.
Mike Greany recommended Fred Fisher be appointed Acting
Legislative Fiscal Analyst, starting June 1 until the Analyst is
permanently appointed.
Senator Pearce MOVED to appoint Fred Fisher Acting Legislative
Fiscal Analyst.
Chairman Phillips - Hearing no objection, the motion was
APPROVED.
(Representative Croft was not present for the vote)
Chairman Phillips appointed a subcommittee comprised of Senator
Pearce, Senator Adams and Representative Martin to discuss and
determine the Legislative Auditor's salary.
Chairman Phillips presented a framed print to Mike Greany
thanking him for his exemplary contribution to the Committee and
the Legislature as Legislative Fiscal Analyst and wished him well
in his future endeavors.
ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Phillips adjourned the meeting at approximately 8:35
a.m.
