SB 146-COMMEMORATIVE VETERANS LICENSE PLATE CHAIR LYNN announced that the first order of business would be SENATE BILL NO. 146, "An Act relating to a commemorative veterans' license plate; and providing for an effective date." Number 0068 SENATOR GRETCHEN GUESS, Alaska State Legislature, sponsor of SB 146, explained that Alaska is one of the few states without a commemorative license plate for veterans. Right now, there is a license plate that veterans only may purchase; however, any Alaskan may purchase the plates proposed in SB 146 in support of veterans. She said the bill is structured similar to the children's trust, with a $100 purchase fee for the plates. In addition, there is a $35 fee for renewal. Those monies would be available for the legislature to appropriate for veterans' services, which is the intent. She said there has been no opposition to the legislation and that the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has no problem with it. Furthermore, it generates money, and any costs would be covered by the fee. Number 0162 REPRESENTATIVE FATE moved to report SB 146 out of committee with individual recommendations and the accompanying fiscal note. There being no objection, SB 146 was reported from the House Special Committee on Military and Veterans' Affairs.
