        SB 228-PUBLIC SCHOOL CONSTR/MAINTENANCE FUNDING                                                                         
                                                                                                                                
CHAIRMAN MILLER announced that no one was signed up to testify on                                                               
the bill, however, Senator Wilken had some questions of the                                                                     
Department of Education (DOE).  He asked DOE staff to come forward                                                              
to testify.                                                                                                                     
                                                                                                                                
MR. EDDY JEANS, Manager of the School Finance and Facilities                                                                    
Section, and MS. KAREN REHFELD, Director of Education Support                                                                   
Services, introduced themselves.                                                                                                
                                                                                                                                
SENATOR WILKEN asked Ms. Rehfeld to prepare a packet for the Senate                                                             
Finance Committee with the following information:  the differences                                                              
in the upgrades in the November 5 and December 15 lists and the                                                                 
reasons why; the actions the Administration is taking to help pay                                                               
for school construction in unorganized Alaska; and ways to develop                                                              
prototype schools and/or prototype components in this package.                                                                  
                                                                                                                                
MS. REHFELD agreed.                                                                                                             
                                                                                                                                
There being no further testimony or discussion on SB 228, SENATOR                                                               
WILKEN moved SB 228 be reported out of committee with individual                                                                
recommendations and attached fiscal notes.  There being no                                                                      
objection, the motion carried.
