SB 78- DISCLOSURE OF WAGE INFORMATION

CHAIR CLAMAN announced the consideration of SENATE BILL NO. 78
"An Act relating to disclosure of information regarding employee
compensation by employers, employees, and applicants for
employment."
CHAIR CLAMAN said this is the second hearing of SB 78 in the
Senate Judiciary Committee. He invited the bill sponsor to give
closing comments.

SENATOR FORREST DUNBAR, District J, Alaska State Legislature,
Juneau, Alaska, gave a brief recap of SB 78.

SENATOR DUNBAR stated that SB 78 seeks to support fair hiring
practices to protect all Alaskan workers while ensuring that
employers are not placed at an unfair risk or disadvantage. He
provided a brief history of the bill, noting that it passed the
House several years ago. He described SB 78 as a common-sense
measure intended to save individuals time when seeking
employment and to provide protections once hired. The bill would
prevent employees from being penalized for discussing their
wages. He expressed appreciation to the chair for hearing the
bill.
