CSHB 255(FIN)(Title am)-WAGE AND HOUR ACT: EXEC/PROF/ADMIN JOBS
CHAIR CON BUNDE called the Senate Labor and Commerce Standing
Committee meeting to order at 10:55 a.m. Present were Senators
Gary Stevens, Hollis French and Chair Con Bunde. The first order
of business to come before the committee was CSHB 255(FIN)(Title
am).
MS. AMANDA WILSON, staff to Representative Rokeberg, sponsor,
said HB 255 is a compromise between labor and small businesses
regarding reasonable minimum salaries only for people who are
salaried employees, who fit under administrative and executive
exemptions, who are in the retail and service industry and who
spend no more than 30 percent of their time doing work outside
of their primary duties.
COMMISSIONER GREG O'CLARAY, Department of Law (DOL), said the
department is comfortable with the compromise.
SENATOR GARY STEVENS moved to pass CSHB 255(FIN)(Title am) from
committee with individual recommendations and attached fiscal
note. Senators Gary Stevens, French and Chair Bunde voted yea;
and CSHB 255(FIN)(Title am) moved from committee.
