HOUSE BILL NO. 136
"An Act relating to tourism and tourism marketing; eliminating
the Alaska Tourism Marketing Council; and providing for an
effective date."
CALL TO ORDER
CHAIR ANDREW HALCRO called the House Special Economic Development
and Tourism Subcommittee to order at 4:35 p.m.
PRESENT

Representatives Kerttula and Barnes.
SUMMARY OF INFORMATION
CHAIR HALCRO explained that the purpose of the meeting was to
review the proposed committee substitute for HB 136. He invited
Ginny Fay, Legislative Liaison, Department of Commerce and
Economic Development, and Tina Lindgren, Executive Director,
Alaska Visitors Association, to proceed through the bill and
explain the proposed changes. Tamara Cook, Director of
Legislative Legal and Research Division Services, was present to
explain the legal requirements of contract bidding and
procurement.
REPRESENTATIVE BARNES expressed concern about the provisions for
competitive bidding and procurement procedures.
REPRESENTATIVE KERTTULA also expressed concern about the
provisions for competitive bidding and procurement procedures.
COMMITTEE ACTION
CHAIR HALCRO requested that Ms. Faye, Ms. Lindgren and Ms. Cook
amend the sections of the bill dealing with contracts and he
asked that they report back to him as soon as possible.
ADJOURNMENT
CHAIR HALCRO adjourned the House Special Economic Development and
Tourism Subcommittee at 5:45 p.m.
