Senator Wielechowski moved the bill be returned to second reading for amendments. Without objection, the bill was returned to second reading. Senator Wielechowski offered Amendment No. 1 : Page 1, line 3, through page 3, line 18: Delete all material and insert: "* Section 1. AS 14.14.090 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: (b) A school board may establish a policy regarding school sports participation in schools in the district." Senator Wielechowski moved for the adoption of Amendment No. 1. Senator Hughes objected. 2022-05-10 Senate Journal Page 2673 The question being: "Shall Amendment No. 1 be adopted?" The roll was taken with the following result: CSSB 140(JUD) Second Reading Amendment No. 1? YEAS: 10 NAYS: 10 EXCUSED: 0 ABSENT: 0 Yeas: Begich, Bishop, Gray-Jackson, Hoffman, Kawasaki, Kiehl, Olson, Stedman, von Imhof, Wielechowski Nays: Costello, Holland, Hughes, Micciche, Myers, Reinbold, Revak, Shower, Stevens, Wilson and so, Amendment No. 1 failed. Senator Begich called the Senate on the bill. Senator Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent Senator Bishop be excused from a call of the Senate today. Without objection, Senator Bishop was excused. The call was satisfied. Senator Begich offered Amendment No. 2 : Page 2, line 19: Delete "protected" Page 2, following line 23: Insert a new subsection to read: "(c) A school or a school district that receives federal funding does not have to comply with AS 14.18.150 if compliance might result in the loss of federal funding." Senator Begich moved for the adoption of Amendment No. 2. Senator Reinbold objected. Senator Wilson moved to limit debate to two minutes. Objections were heard. Senator Wilson moved and asked unanimous consent to withdraw the motion. President Micciche stated the further consideration of CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 140(JUD) would be held to the May 11 calendar. There being no objection, it was so ordered.
