There being no objection, it was so ordered. Amendment No. 1 was offered by Representative Brice: Page 1, line 1 (title amendment): Delete "relating to" Insert "prohibiting" Page 1, line 3, through page 2, line 31: Delete all material and insert: "* Section 1. AS47.25 is amended by adding a new section to read: 1998-01-30 House Journal Page 2184 HB 234 Sec. 47.25.125. Prohibition on payments for abortions. Notwithstanding AS47.25.252 or any other provision of AS47.25.120- 47.25.300, the department may not provide financial assistance under AS47.25.120- 47.25.300 to pay for an abortion. In this section, "abortion" means an operation or procedure intended to terminate the pregnancy of a woman by means other than childbirth." Representative Brice moved and asked unanimous consent that Amendment No.1 be adopted. Representative Kelly objected. The question being: "Shall Amendment No. 1 be adopted?" Representative Porter moved and asked unanimous consent that CSHB234(FIN) be considered engrossed, advanced to third reading and placed on final passage. And so, lacking the necessary 21 votes, CSHB 234(FIN) failed to pass the House. Representative Williams gave notice of reconsideration of his vote on CSHB 234(FIN)(fld H).
