01 "An Act relating to free breakfast and lunch in public schools."                                                        
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1. AS 14.17 is amended by adding a new section to article 1 to read:                                     
04 Sec. 14.17.495. Free breakfast and lunch in public schools. Subject to                                                
05 appropriation, and in addition to the state aid received under this chapter, the                                        
06 department shall provide to a district sufficient funding to allow the district to provide                              
07 breakfast and lunch to any student in the district who requests the meal, at no cost to                                 
08 the student. The department shall maximize the state's receipt of federal financial                                     
09       assistance that may be available for providing breakfast and lunch to students.
