01 "An Act relating to residential prepaid rent and security deposits; and providing for an                                
02 effective date."                                                                                                        
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 34.03.070(a) is amended to read:                                                                   
05 (a)  Except as provided in (h) of this section, a landlord may not demand or                                            
06 receive prepaid rent or a security deposit, however denominated, in an amount or                                        
07 value in excess of one-half of one month's [TWO MONTHS'] periodic rent. [THIS                                       
08 SECTION DOES NOT APPLY TO RENTAL UNITS WHERE THE RENT                                                                   
09       EXCEEDS $2,000 A MONTH.]                                                                                          
10    * Sec. 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2025.
