00 SENATE BILL NO. 26 01 "An Act relating to special registration plates commemorating peace officers killed in 02 the line of duty." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 28.10.181 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 05 (ll) Special request plates commemorating peace officers killed in the line of 06 duty. Upon application by the owner of a motor vehicle, the department may issue 07 registration plates commemorating peace officers killed in the line of duty. The 08 commissioner, after consulting with representatives of peace officers killed in the line 09 of duty, shall determine the design and color of the plates. The department may 10 disapprove the issuance of registration plates under this subsection when the requested 11 plates are a duplication of an existing registration. In this subsection, "peace officer" 12 means 13 (1) an officer of the state troopers; 14 (2) a member of the police force of a municipality;
01 (3) a village public safety officer; and 02 (4) an officer assigned to a court to serve warrants and court orders, 03 provide court security and judicial protection, and transport prisoners. 04 * Sec. 2. AS 28.10.421(d) is amended by adding a new paragraph to read: 05 (26) special request plates commemorating peace officers killed in the 06 line of duty ........................................... $30 07 plus the fee required for that vehicle under (b), (c), (h), or (i) of this section; the fee 08 required by this paragraph shall be collected biennially in the same manner as the fee 09 required under (b), (c), (h), or (i) of this section.
