00 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 12 01 Proposing amendments to the Constitution of the State of Alaska relating to terms of 02 legislators. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. Article II, sec. 3, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read: 05 Section 3. Election and Terms. Legislators shall be elected at general 06 elections. Their terms begin on the fourth Monday of the January following election 07 unless otherwise provided by law. The term of representatives shall be two years, and 08 the term of senators, four years. One-half of the senators shall be elected every two 09 years. No person who has served as a representative for six full terms shall again 10 be eligible to be nominated, elected, or appointed to that office. No person who 11 has served as a senator for three full terms shall again be eligible to be 12 nominated, elected, or appointed to that office. 13 * Sec. 2. Article XV, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended by adding a new 14 section to read: 15 Section 30. Application of 2024 Tenure Amendment. Years served in the 16 legislature before the convening of the First Regular Session of the Thirty-Fourth

01 Alaska State Legislature shall not be considered for purposes of applying the tenure 02 limit added by the 2024 amendment to Section 3 of Article II. 03 * Sec. 3. The amendments proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of 04 the state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the 05 State of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
