00 SENATE CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 230(EDC) 01 "An Act relating to teacher certificates for retired teachers; and repealing the limit on 02 the number of years of out-of-state school experience that may be substituted for in-state 03 experience in teacher salary scales." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. AS 14.20.020(g) is amended to read: 06 (g) The department shall issue a teacher certificate to a person who possessed 07 a valid Alaska teacher certificate upon retirement. A teacher certificate issued under 08 this subsection is valid for the life of the retired teacher and qualifies the holder as a 09 substitute teacher in the state. A teacher certificated under this subsection may 10 teach as a long-term substitute teacher for not more than 165 consecutive days of 11 a school term. In this subsection, "long-term substitute teacher" means a teacher 12 who is employed in the state to substitute teach for more than 20 consecutive days 13 of a school term. 14 * Sec. 2. AS 14.16.050(a)(3)(C); AS 14.20.220(e), and 14.20.220(g) are repealed.
01 * Sec. 3. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 02 read: 03 APPLICABILITY. Section 1 of this Act applies to a contract or collective bargaining 04 agreement that becomes legally binding on or after the effective date of this Act.
