AS 08.98.050(b) is amended to read: 05 (b) The board may 06 (1) establish examination and registration requirements for veterinary 07 technicians; 08 (2) adopt regulations or do any act necessary to carry out its duties 09 under this chapter; 10 (3) adopt a certification process for licensure to practice veterinary 11 medicine. 12 * Sec. 2. AS 08.98.165(a) is amended to read: 13 (a) An applicant is qualified to receive a license as a veterinarian who

01 (1) is a graduate of an accredited veterinary school or who has 02 successfully completed the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates 03 certification, the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education 04 Equivalence certification, or another certification process approved by the board; 05 (2) has, within the 60 months preceding application for the license, 06 passed a national examination for veterinarians approved by the board; 07 (3) has passed the written examination of the state on specific Alaska 08 issues of veterinary practice; 09 (4) is in good standing, as defined by the board in regulations; and 10 (5) has paid required fees. 11 * Sec. 3. AS 08.98.184 is amended to read: 12 Sec. 08.98.184. Licensure by credentials. The board shall approve the 13 issuance of a license to an applicant who holds a valid license to practice veterinary 14 medicine in another state, territory, or country if the applicant 15 (1) has graduated from an accredited school of veterinary medicine or 16 has successfully completed the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary 17 Graduates certification, the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education 18 Equivalence certification, or another certification process approved by the board; 19 (2) has been engaged in the active practice of veterinary medicine for 20 at least five of the seven years before filing the application; 21 (3) has passed the written examination of the state on specific Alaska 22 issues of veterinary practice; 23 (4) is in good standing, as defined by the board in regulations; and 24 (5) has paid required fees. 25 * Sec. 4. AS 17.30.200(o) is amended to read: 26 (o) The board shall promptly notify the State Medical Board, the Board of 27 Nursing, the Board of Dental Examiners, and the Board of Examiners in Optometry [, 28 AND THE BOARD OF VETERINARY EXAMINERS] when a practitioner registers 29 with the database under (n) of this section. 30 * Sec. 5. AS 17.30.200 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 31 (v) This section does not apply to a schedule II, III, or IV controlled substance

01 prescribed or dispensed by a veterinarian licensed under AS 08.98 to treat an animal. 02 * Sec. 6. AS 08.98.050(a)(10) is repealed. 03 * Sec. 7. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
