00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 48(STA) 01 "An Act relating to reports from the State Commission for Human Rights." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 18.80.060(a) is amended to read: 04 (a) In addition to the other powers and duties prescribed by this chapter, the 05 commission shall 06 (1) appoint an executive director approved by the governor; 07 (2) hire other administrative staff as may be necessary to the 08 commission's function; 09 (3) exercise general supervision and direct the activities of the 10 executive director and other administrative staff; 11 (4) accept complaints under AS 18.80.100; 12 (5) study the problems of discrimination in all or specific fields of 13 human relationships, foster through community effort or goodwill, cooperation and 14 conciliation among the groups and elements of the population of the state, and publish 15 results of investigations and research as in its judgment will tend to eliminate

01 discrimination because of race, religion, color, national ancestry, physical or mental 02 disability, age, sex, marital status, changes in marital status, pregnancy, or parenthood; 03 (6) make an overall assessment, at least once every three years, of the 04 progress made toward equal employment opportunity by every department of state 05 government; the commission shall prepare a report summarizing the results of the 06 assessment within 90 days after the convening of the regular legislative session of 07 the year in which the report is required; the commission shall make electronic 08 copies of the report available to the public and notify the legislature that the 09 report is available [RESULTS OF THE ASSESSMENT SHALL BE INCLUDED IN 10 THE ANNUAL REPORT MADE UNDER AS 18.80.150]. 11 * Sec. 2. AS 18.80.150 is amended to read: 12 Sec. 18.80.150. Annual report. The commission shall report annually to the 13 governor on civil rights problems it has encountered in the preceding year, and may 14 recommend legislative action.
