00 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 2 01 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Alaska relating to the 02 membership of the judicial council. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. Article IV, sec. 8, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read: 05 Section 8. Judicial Council. The judicial council shall consist of seven 06 members. Three attorney members shall be appointed for six-year terms by the 07 governing body of the organized state bar subject to confirmation by a majority of 08 the members of the legislature in joint session. Three non-attorney members shall 09 be appointed for six-year terms by the governor subject to confirmation by a majority 10 of the members of the legislature in joint session. Vacancies shall be filled for the 11 unexpired term in like manner. Appointments shall be made with due consideration to 12 area representation and without regard to political affiliation. The chief justice of the 13 supreme court shall be ex-officio the seventh member and chairman of the judicial 14 council. No member of the judicial council, except the chief justice, may hold any 15 other office or position of profit under the United States or the State. The judicial 16 council shall act by concurrence of four or more members and according to rules

01 which it adopts. 02 * Sec. 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of the 03 state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the State 04 of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
