00Enrolled SB 161 01 Relating to the definition of "political party"; and providing for an effective date. 02 _______________ 03 * Section 1. AS 15.80.010(27) is amended to read: 04 (27) "political party" means an organized group of voters that 05 represents a political program and has at least 5,000 registered voters in the state; 06 beginning with the results of the 2030 decennial federal census, following each 07 decennial federal census, the division shall by regulation adjust this number by 08 the percentage of the change to the population of the state since the 2020 09 decennial federal census, rounded to the nearest 500 10 [(A) THAT HAS REGISTERED VOTERS IN THE STATE 11 EQUAL IN NUMBER TO AT LEAST THREE PERCENT OF THE TOTAL 12 VOTES CAST FOR GOVERNOR AT THE PRECEDING GENERAL 13 ELECTION;

01 (B) IF THE OFFICE OF GOVERNOR WAS NOT ON THE 02 BALLOT AT THE PRECEDING GENERAL ELECTION BUT THE OFFICE 03 OF UNITED STATES SENATOR WAS ON THAT BALLOT, THAT HAS 04 REGISTERED VOTERS IN THE STATE EQUAL IN NUMBER TO AT 05 LEAST THREE PERCENT OF THE TOTAL VOTES CAST FOR UNITED 06 STATES SENATOR AT THAT GENERAL ELECTION; OR 07 (C) IF NEITHER THE OFFICE OF GOVERNOR NOR THE 08 OFFICE OF UNITED STATES SENATOR WAS ON THE BALLOT AT 09 THE PRECEDING GENERAL ELECTION, THAT HAS REGISTERED 10 VOTERS IN THE STATE EQUAL IN NUMBER TO AT LEAST THREE 11 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL VOTES CAST FOR UNITED STATES 12 REPRESENTATIVE AT THAT GENERAL ELECTION]; 13 * Sec. 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2023.
