01 "An Act requiring public schools to make certain curriculum materials available to the                                  
02 public."                                                                                                                
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 14.07.050 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                           
05 (b)  Each public school shall compile and regularly update a list of textbooks                                          
06 used by the public school. The list must include the title of the textbook and a link to a                              
07 publicly available Internet website that contains information about the textbook. Not                                   
08 later than 30 days after a public school compiles or updates the list required under this                               
09 subsection, the public school shall publish the list on the public school's Internet                                    
10 website. If a public school does not maintain an Internet website, the public school                                    
11 shall provide the list to the department and the department shall publish the list as                                   
12 required by this subsection on the department's Internet website. This subsection does                                  
13 not apply to information that is protected by copyright or trademark. In this                                           
14       subsection, "public school" has the meaning given in AS 14.30.179.                                                

01    * Sec. 2. AS 14.07.180(o) is amended by adding new paragraphs to read:                                             
02                 (6)  "public school" has the meaning given in AS 14.30.179;                                             
03                 (7)  "syllabus" means an outline of the subjects to be taught in a course                               
04       of study.                                                                                                         
05    * Sec. 3. AS 14.07.180 is amended by adding new subsections to read:                                               
06            (p)  Each public school shall compile and regularly update the following                                     
07       information for each course of study offered by the public school:                                                
08                 (1)  the course syllabus or a written summary of the course; and                                        
09                 (2)  the state education performance standard for the course.                                           
10 (q)  Not later than 30 days after a public school compiles or updates the                                               
11 information under (p) of this section, the public school shall publish the information                                  
12 on the public school's Internet website. If the public school does not maintain an                                      
13 Internet website, the public school shall provide the information required under (p) of                                 
14 this section to the department and the department shall publish the information on the                                  
15 department's Internet website as required under this subsection. This subsection does                                   
16       not apply to information that is protected by copyright or trademark.                                             
17 (r)  Not later than 30 days after the department publishes curricula under                                              
18       AS 14.07.180(i), the public school shall either                                                                   
19 (1)  publish the curricula on the public school's Internet website; this                                                
20       paragraph does not apply to curricula that is protected by copyright or trademark; or                             
21 (2)  post on the public school's Internet website a link to the                                                         
22       department's Internet website where the department published the curricula.
