01 "An Act limiting the pay of certain state officers and employees in the executive branch;                               
02 and providing for an effective date."                                                                                   
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 39.20.080 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                           
05            (d)  Notwithstanding any other state law, the monthly salary of the head or                                  
06       deputy head of each principal executive department may not exceed the monthly                                     
07       salary of the governor.                                                                                           
08    * Sec. 2. AS 39.23.550 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                              
09            (c)  Subject to (a) of this section, the commission may not recommend annual                                 
10       compensation for the lieutenant governor or an executive department head that                                     
11       exceeds the annual compensation of the governor.                                                                  
12    * Sec. 3. AS 39.27.011 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                              
13            (l)  Notwithstanding (a) - (k) of this section, a state officer or employee in the                           
14       executive branch may not receive or be authorized to receive pay under this section                               

01       that is higher than the pay of the governor.                                                                      
02    * Sec. 4. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to                          
03 read:                                                                                                                   
04       APPLICABILITY. AS 39.20.080(d), enacted by sec. 1 of this Act, AS 39.23.550(c),                                   
05 enacted by sec. 2 of this Act, and AS 39.27.011(l), enacted by sec. 3 of this Act, apply to                             
06 contracts entered into on or after the effective date of this Act.                                                      
07    * Sec. 5. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
