01 "An Act establishing May 31 of each year as Katie John Day; and providing for an                                        
02 effective date."                                                                                                        
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 44.12 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                
05 Sec. 44.12.063. Katie John Day. Katie John Day is established on May 31 of                                            
06 each year to honor Ahtna Athabascan elder Katie John for her mentoring and                                              
07 advocacy in defense of Alaska Native customary and traditional hunting, fishing, and                                    
08 gathering rights. Katie John Day may be observed by suitable observances and                                            
09       exercises by civic groups and the public.                                                                         
10    * Sec. 2. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
