00 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 11 01 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Alaska prohibiting a 02 religious test for public office. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. Article XII, sec. 5, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read: 05 Section 5. Oath of Office. All public officers, before entering upon the duties 06 of their offices, shall take and subscribe to the following oath or affirmation: "I do 07 solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the 08 United States and the Constitution of the State of Alaska, and that I will faithfully 09 discharge my duties as . . . . . . . . . . . . to the best of my ability." No religious test, 10 secular or otherwise, shall be required as a qualification for any public office. The 11 legislature may prescribe further oaths or affirmations. 12 * Sec. 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of the 13 state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the State 14 of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
