00 HOUSE BILL NO. 169 01 "An Act establishing a program for tours of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for 02 certain members of the United States Congress." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 44 is amended by adding a new section to read: 05 Article 10A. Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Familiarization Program. 06 Sec. 44.33.700. Arctic National Wildlife Refuge familiarization program. 07 (a) The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development shall 08 implement a program to assist with and coordinate travel to and within the North 09 Slope, including the 1002 study area of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, for 10 members of the United States Congress. The Department of Commerce, Community, 11 and Economic Development may only assist with or plan 12 (1) one trip for each member of Congress over the lifetime of the 13 program; 14 (2) up to two trips a year for groups of 10 or fewer members of

01 Congress; 02 (3) a trip that does not exceed five days, including travel time, in the 03 1002 study area of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the North Slope. 04 (b) The legislature may appropriate an amount necessary to fund the cost of 05 reasonable airfare, meals, and lodging for a member of Congress visiting the North 06 Slope as part of the program described in (a) of this section.
