01 "An Act relating to physical activity requirements for students in kindergarten through                                 
02 grade eight."                                                                                                           
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 14.30.360 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                           
05            (c)  In addition to the health education program encouraged under (a) of this                                
06       section, a school district shall require schools in the district to include, for each full                        
07       school day for students in kindergarten through grade eight, a minimum of 90 percent                              
08       of the daily amount of physical activity recommended for children and adolescents in                              
09       the physical activity guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.                               
10       The time required for physical activity under this subsection may include physical                                
11       education classes and opportunities for unstructured physical activity, such as recess.                           
12       The policy established under this subsection must allow a student to be excused from                              
13       the physical activity requirements if the student is unable to participate because of a                           
14       physical disability or for a medical reason. In this subsection, "district" has the                               

01       meaning given in AS 14.17.990.
