01 "An Act relating to a voluntary preference for veterans and for spouses and domestic                                    
02 partners of veterans by private employers."                                                                             
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 18.80.200 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                           
05            (c)  Nothing in this chapter is intended to prohibit a private employer from                                 
06       granting an employment preference to a veteran, or to a spouse or domestic partner of                             
07       a veteran, when hiring an employee. In this subsection,                                                           
08                 (1)  "domestic partner" has the meaning given in AS 39.50.200;                                          
09                 (2)  "veteran" means a person who was honorably discharged from                                         
10       service in the armed forces of the United States or the Alaska Territorial Guard.
