01 Designating January 24 - 30, 2016, as Alaska School Choice Week.

03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                             
04      WHEREAS every student in the state should have access to an effective education;                                 
05 and                                                                                                                     
06      WHEREAS citizens across the state agree that continuing to improve the quality of                                
07 education in the state is an issue of importance to our state's leaders; and                                            
08      WHEREAS the state recognizes the critical role that an effective and accountable                                 
09 system of education plays in preparing all children in the state to be successful adults; and                           
10      WHEREAS the state has a multitude of high quality traditional public schools,                                    
11 optional public schools, public charter schools, and nonpublic schools, as well as families                             
12 who educate their children in the home; and                                                                             
13      WHEREAS the state has many high quality, dedicated teaching professionals in all                                 
14 types of educational environments; and                                                                                  
15      WHEREAS it is important for parents in the state to explore and identify the best                                
16 educational options available to their children; and                                                                    
17      WHEREAS research demonstrates that providing children with multiple educational                                  

01 options improves academic performance; and                                                                              
02      WHEREAS National School Choice Week is a celebration recognized by millions of                                   
03 students, parents, educators, schools, and community leaders across the country for the                                 
04 purpose of raising public awareness of the importance of effective educational options for                              
05 children;                                                                                                               
06      BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature designates January 24 - 30,                                     
07 2016, as Alaska School Choice Week and calls this observance to the attention of all citizens                           
08 of the state.
