00                   HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 2                                                                    
01 Designating January 25 - 31, 2015, as Alaska School Choice Week.                                                        
02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
03       WHEREAS every student in the state should have access to an effective education;                                
04 and                                                                                                                     
05       WHEREAS citizens across the state agree that continuing to improve the quality of                               
06 education in the state is an issue of importance to our state's leaders; and                                            
07       WHEREAS the state recognizes the critical role that an effective and accountable                                
08 system of education plays in preparing all children in the state to be successful adults; and                           
09       WHEREAS the state has a multitude of high quality traditional public schools, public                            
10 charter schools, and nonpublic schools, as well as families who educate their children in the                           
11 home; and                                                                                                               
12       WHEREAS the state has many high quality, dedicated teaching professionals in all                                
13 types of educational environments; and                                                                                  
14       WHEREAS it is important for parents in the state to explore and identify the best                               
15 educational options available to their children; and                                                                    
16       WHEREAS research demonstrates that providing children with multiple educational                                 

01 options improves academic performance; and                                                                              
02       WHEREAS National School Choice Week is a celebration recognized by millions of                                  
03 students, parents, educators, schools, and community leaders across the country for the                                 
04 purpose of raising public awareness of the importance of effective educational options for                              
05 children;                                                                                                               
06       BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature designates January 25 - 31,                                    
07 2015, as Alaska School Choice Week and calls this observance to the attention of all citizens                           
08 of the state.
