00 HOUSE BILL NO. 356 01 "An Act relating to the minimum expenditure for direct classroom instruction for school 02 districts." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 14.17.520(a) is amended to read: 05 (a) A district shall budget for and spend a minimum of 70 percent of its school 06 operating expenditures in each fiscal year on direct classroom instruction [THE 07 INSTRUCTIONAL] component of the district budget. 08 * Sec. 2. AS 14.17.520(e) is amended to read: 09 (e) The commissioner shall submit an annual report on actions taken by the 10 commissioner or the board under this section to the Legislative Budget and Audit 11 Committee by October 1 [APRIL 15] of each year. 12 * Sec. 3. AS 14.17.520(f) is repealed and reenacted to read: 13 (f) In this section, "direct classroom instruction" means instruction delivered to 14 a group of students in a classroom, by mail, or by electronic means by
01 (1) a licensed teacher; or 02 (2) a school administrator who provides instruction for a minimum of 03 one class session each semester.
