00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 275(STA) am 01 "An Act establishing Katie John Day; and establishing Indigenous Peoples Day." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 44.12 is amended by adding a new section to read: 04 Sec. 44.12.063. Katie John Day. Katie John Day is established on May 31 of 05 each year to honor Athabaskan elder Katie John for her fight for subsistence rights and 06 her teaching of the traditional way of life. Katie John Day may be observed by suitable 07 observances and exercises by civic groups and the public. 08 * Sec. 2. AS 44.12 is amended by adding a new section to article 2 to read: 09 Sec. 44.12.150. Indigenous Peoples Day. Indigenous Peoples Day is 10 established on the 18th day of October of each year, also known as Alaska Day. 11 Indigenous Peoples Day may be observed by suitable observances and exercises by 12 civic groups and the public.
