00 HOUSE BILL NO. 319 01 "An Act requiring a study of the health effects of airport security screening." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section 04 to read: 05 DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES; STUDY OF AIRPORT 06 SCREENING HEALTH EFFECTS. (a) The Department of Health and Social Services shall 07 conduct a study of the mental and physical health effects of airport security screening. The 08 study shall investigate the potential for 09 (1) psychological trauma to travelers who have 10 (A) been diagnosed with cancer; 11 (B) had surgical resection or implant of a body part; 12 (C) been the victim of a physical or sexual assault; or 13 (D) sustained an injury related to work or war; 14 (2) physical effects from radiologic or other techniques used in the screening; 15 and

01 (3) exposure to harmful substances while undergoing airport security 02 screening. 03 (b) The department may enter into a contract with a qualified entity to conduct the 04 study described in (a) of this section. 05 (c) On or before January 1, 2014, the department shall report the findings of the study 06 conducted under this section to the legislative committees having jurisdiction over health 07 matters.
