00 HOUSE BILL NO. 287 01 "An Act relating to absentee voting." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 15.20.081(g) is amended to read: 04 (g) The director shall maintain a record of the name of each voter to whom an 05 absentee ballot is sent under this section. The record must list the date on which the 06 ballot is mailed or provided by electronic transmission and the date on which the 07 ballot is received by the election supervisor and the dates on which the ballot was 08 executed and postmarked. After each general election, the director shall submit to 09 the commissioner of revenue a list of voters who cast absentee ballots. 10 * Sec. 2. AS 15.20.081(i) is amended to read: 11 (i) An absentee ballot application submitted by an absent uniformed services 12 voter or by an absent overseas voter qualifying under AS 15.05.011 is valid through 13 the next two regularly scheduled general elections for federal office after the date the 14 application is submitted. An absentee ballot application submitted by a qualified 15 voter or on behalf of a qualified voter, other than a voter qualifying under

01 AS 15.05.011, is valid through the next two regularly scheduled general elections 02 following the date the application is submitted. If a voter casts an absentee ballot 03 in accordance with (d) - (f) of this section that was received by the voter as a 04 result of an absentee ballot application, the voter's application remains valid 05 through the next two regularly scheduled general elections following the election 06 in which the ballot was cast. However, nothing in this subsection requires the 07 director or an election supervisor to send an absentee ballot to a voter after the 08 director or election supervisor has received actual notice that mail sent to the 09 permanent mailing address of the voter, or a different address provided by the 10 voter, is undeliverable to the voter at that address. In this subsection, "absent 11 uniformed services voter" has the meaning given in 42 U.S.C. 1973ff-6.
