01 "An Act relating to time limitations on applications for compensation to victims of crime                               
02 by the Violent Crimes Compensation Board."                                                                              
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 18.67.040(f) is amended to read:                                                                   
05            (f)  Orders and decisions of the board shall be final. Nothing in this section                           
06       shall prevent the board from taking further action as necessary and for good                                  
07       cause shown on an application that was timely filed and that is in compliance                                 
08       with AS 18.67.130.                                                                                            
09    * Sec. 2. AS 18.67.130(a) is amended to read:                                                                      
10            (a)  An order for the payment of compensation may not be made under                                          
11       AS 18.67.080 unless                                                                                               
12                 (1)  the application has been made within                                                               
13                      (A)  two years after the date of the personal injury or death; or                          
14                      (B)  two years after the incident or offense was reported to                                   

01            the police as provided in (2) of this subsection;                                                        
02                 (2)  the personal injury or death was the result of an incident or offense                              
03       listed in AS 18.67.101 that had been reported to the police within five days of its                               
04       occurrence or, if the incident or offense could not reasonably have been reported                                 
05       within that period, within five days of the time when a report could reasonably have                              
06       been made; and                                                                                                    
07                 (3)  in the discretion of the board, the applicant has cooperated with law                              
08       enforcement and prosecution officials to further prosecution of the offender if                                   
09       appropriate and to avoid further injury by the offender to the applicant and injury to                            
10       persons in the care of the applicant who are exposed to possible injury by the offender.
