00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 180(FIN) 01 "An Act authorizing the Department of Administration to note a person's status as a 02 retired veteran or a veteran discharged under honorable conditions on the person's 03 driver's license or identification card, to provide certain information to the Department 04 of Military and Veterans' Affairs, and to charge a fee for replacing a valid driver's 05 license or identification card with a new license or card that includes the veteran 06 designation; and providing for an effective date." 07 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 08 * Section 1. AS 18.65.310 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 09 (l) At the request of the person, the department shall provide a United States 10 flag designation on an identification card identifying the person as a retired veteran or 11 a veteran of the armed forces of the United States discharged under honorable 12 conditions. The department may not charge a fee solely for the designation. To receive 13 a veteran designation, the person shall provide proof of veteran status that shows the

01 person is retired or discharged under honorable conditions. With the approval of the 02 person, the department shall make available to the Department of Military and 03 Veterans' Affairs the name and address of a person receiving a veteran designation 04 under this subsection. Notwithstanding (a) of this section, the department may charge 05 a fee of $5 for replacement of a valid identification card with a new identification card 06 with a veteran designation. 07 * Sec. 2. AS 28.15.111 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 08 (c) At the request of an applicant, the department shall provide a United States 09 flag designation on a license identifying the driver as a retired veteran or a veteran of 10 the armed forces of the United States discharged under honorable conditions. The 11 department may not charge a fee solely for the designation. To receive a veteran 12 designation, the driver shall make available proof of veteran status that shows that the 13 person is retired or discharged under honorable conditions. With the approval of the 14 applicant, the department shall make available to the Department of Military and 15 Veterans' Affairs the name and address of a driver receiving a veteran designation 16 under this subsection. The department may charge a fee of $5 for replacement of a 17 valid driver's license with a new license with a veteran designation. A replacement 18 license with a veteran designation issued for $5 under this subsection shall retain the 19 expiration date of the license it replaces. 20 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect March 1, 2013.
