00 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 1 01 Proposing amendments to the Constitution of the State of Alaska relating to terms of 02 legislators. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. Article II, sec. 3, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read: 05 Section 3. Election and Terms. Legislators shall be elected at general 06 elections. Their terms begin on the fourth Monday of the January following election 07 unless otherwise provided by law. The term of representatives shall be two years, and 08 the term of senators, four years. One-half of the senators shall be elected every two 09 years. No person who has served as a representative for four full or partial 10 successive terms shall again be eligible to hold that office until one full term has 11 intervened. No person who has served as a senator for two full or partial 12 successive terms shall again be eligible to hold that office until one full term has 13 intervened. 14 * Sec. 2. Article XV, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended by adding a new 15 section to read: 16 Section 30. Application of 2010 Tenure Amendment. Years served in the

01 legislature before the convening of the First Regular Session of the Twenty-Seventh 02 Alaska State Legislature shall not be considered for purposes of applying the tenure limit 03 added by the 2010 amendment to Section 3 of Article II. 04 * Sec. 3. The amendments proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of the 05 state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the State of 06 Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
