00                   SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 1                                                                   
01 Relating to a "State of Our University" address to the legislature.                                                     
02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
03       WHEREAS the University of Alaska is established under the Constitution of the State                             
04 of Alaska as the state university with an identity that is distinct from the rest of the executive                      
05 branch of government; and                                                                                               
06       WHEREAS many legislators, as well as members of the public, feel that a                                         
07 communications gap may exist concerning the operation of the university; and                                            
08       WHEREAS the President of the University of Alaska is in the best position to explain                            
09 the accomplishments, goals, and special needs of our university;                                                        
10       BE IT RESOLVED by the Alaska State Legislature that the President of the                                        
11 University of Alaska is cordially invited to address a joint session of the legislature at a time                       
12 to be determined by the leadership of both houses; and be it                                                            
13       FURTHER RESOLVED that it is the intent of the legislature to make the "State of                                 
14 Our University" address a biennial occurrence, with the first "State of Our University" address                         
15 to be made to the Twenty-Fifth Alaska State Legislature during the First Regular Session.
