01 "An Act repealing the exemption for certain ambulance or emergency medical services                                     
02 provided by nonprofit medical service corporations in laws, applicable to hospital and                                  
03 medical services corporations, which regulate prepaid hospital and medical services and                                 
04 the identification of subscribers by means of health care services agreements."                                         
05 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
06    * Section 1. AS 21.87.010(b) is amended to read:                                                                   
07            (b)  This chapter does not apply to                                                                          
08                 (1)  insurers or fraternal benefit societies authorized to transact the kind                            
09       of insurance involved under other chapters of this title;                                                         
10                 (2)  fraternal and other organizations exempted from AS 21.24;                                          
11                 (3)  health care services provided by an employer to employees and                                      
12       their dependents, with or without contribution to the costs thereof by the employees,                             
13       through health care service facilities owned, employed, or controlled by the                                      
14       employers;                                                                                                        
15                 (4)  infrequent instances of prepayment by or for the patient direct to                                 
16       the physician or hospital for specific services thereafter rendered to the patient by the                         

01       physician or hospital;                                                                                            
02                 (5)  ambulance or emergency medical services provided by a                                              
03       municipality [, NONPROFIT MEDICAL SERVICE CORPORATION,] or nonprofit                                              
04       association if the person providing the services is certified under AS 18.08.082.
