00                             SENATE BILL NO. 4                                                                          
01 "An Act requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid certifications for                                        
02 issuance of a secondary school diploma."                                                                                
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 14.03 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                 
05            Sec. 14.03.076.  First aid and CPR graduation requirement.  Each school                                    
06       district shall require, in addition to other minimum courses of study for graduation                              
07       from secondary school, that each student be certified in basic first aid and                                      
08       cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before a diploma may be issued to the student.                                
09       This requirement may be waived by the governing body of the school district upon                                  
10       proof that a student is incapable of performing the necessary functions for                                       
11       certification.                                                                                                    
12    * Sec. 2.  AS 14.30.360 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                             
13            (c)  Each district in the state public school system shall initiate and conduct a                            
14       program leading to certification in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)                             

01       for secondary school students.
