HJR 25: Urging the United States Congress to enact the American Veterans Homeownership Act of 2005.

00 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 25 01 Urging the United States Congress to enact the American Veterans Homeownership Act 02 of 2005. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 WHEREAS a large number of Alaskans are currently serving or have served in the 05 military; and 06 WHEREAS the Alaska veterans mortgage program is currently restricted by a 1986 07 federal tax code provision that provides tax-exempt bonds for housing loans to veterans for 08 only those veterans who served before January 1, 1977; and 09 WHEREAS the number of veterans in Alaska who qualify for the tax-exempt bonds 10 for housing loans to veterans has decreased to fewer than 60; and 11 WHEREAS the courageous men and women of Alaska who serve in the armed forces 12 and make sacrifices for our country should be entitled to low-cost veterans' housing loans; 13 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature requests the United States 14 Congress to pass the American Veterans Homeownership Act of 2005, H.R. 2952; and extend 15 the date for leaving active service in order to qualify for a veterans' housing loan. 16 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable George W.
