00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 9 01 Proclaiming Alaska Agriculture Day for 2005 and 2006. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS agriculture is the foundation of every civilization; and 04 WHEREAS American agriculture, and Alaska agriculture in particular, has a history 05 of innovation, stewardship, and progress; and 06 WHEREAS each American farmer feeds an average of 144 people; and 07 WHEREAS Alaska's agricultural industry adds more than $50,000,000 to the state's 08 economy each year; and 09 WHEREAS Alaska farmers provide fresh, wholesome, locally produced agricultural 10 products to Alaskans, who otherwise must rely entirely on imported agricultural products; 11 and 12 WHEREAS the need for agricultural literacy has increased as the number of people 13 living on farms has decreased; 14 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature proclaims the first Tuesday of 15 May 2005, and the first Tuesday of May 2006, as Alaska Agriculture Day in recognition of 16 the contribution of Alaska farmers and those in related industries; and be it

01 FURTHER RESOLVED that Alaska Agriculture Day be commemorated by 02 celebratory events, projects, and activities aimed at people of all ages to increase their 03 awareness and appreciation of Alaska agriculture and agriculture in general.
