00 HOUSE BILL NO. 499 01 "An Act relating to the delegation of duties by a dentist." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 08.36.365 is amended to read: 04 Sec. 08.36.365. Rights of dentists. A dentist licensed in this state may 05 (1) practice in an association, partnership, corporation, or other lawful 06 entity with other dentists, including specialists; 07 (2) practice under the name of "dental center" or other descriptive term 08 that does not deceive the public about the nature of the services provided; 09 (3) supervise research that would otherwise violate this chapter or 10 regulations adopted under this chapter when the research does not involve treatment of 11 dental patients if the research is performed by a nonprofit dental research institution 12 chartered by this state or by a dental or dental auxiliary school accredited by the 13 Commission on Accreditation of the American Dental Association, or its successor 14 agency; 15 (4) supervise research that would otherwise violate this chapter or

01 regulations adopted under this chapter when the research involves the treatment of 02 dental patients if the research is performed by a nonprofit dental research institution 03 chartered by this state or by a dental or dental auxiliary school accredited by the 04 Commission on Accreditation of the American Dental Association, or its successor 05 agency, and if the dentist notifies the board in writing, at least 60 days before 06 beginning the treatment, of the intended practices or procedures and the board does 07 not disapprove the research; 08 (5) delegate to a person the function of packing and carving of 09 restorations prepared by a dentist if the person has passed the clinical restorative 10 section of an examination approved by the board that is based on an examination 11 provided by the Western Regional Examining Board or a successor entity.
